EQUESTRIAN
Coppercreek Camp has a large, dynamic and diversified riding program. Our riders range from first time beginners to campers who are jumping up to 3 feet. All campers will find something challenging and exciting in our Equestrian program. Campers can choose to participate in riding lessons on several different levels. Campers sign up each week if they want to take a daily one-hour lesson. Typically, campers are placed in riding lessons with a group of 3 to 6 kids of similar ability. We teach a balanced seat first where campers learn the proper fundamentals and are then able to advance. We have a variety of breeds, including Quarterhorses, Saddlebreds, Andalusian crosses, Arabs, Warmbloods, sport ponies, miniatures, Drafts and the good old American mutt, to meet our camper's needs and interests. Our beginner lesson and trail horses are mostly older, well-seasoned horses who are quiet and kind, instilling confidence in new riders. Our more advanced horses are trained to a higher level to challenge even the most experienced rider. We teach English lessons, and our classes progress through basic flatwork to jumping for those campers who are ready. Trail riding is included in lower level lessons and is available to our more advanced riders also. One important note is that we offer a year round riding program. We own our horses and for the most part, they are schooled and ridden year round. Our horses enter the summer fit, tuned up and ready for the campers. In all lessons, our staff put the safety of the camper and the happiness of the horse first!
NEW THIS YEAR: For our really horse crazy campers, we will be offering many different specialty activities. Miniature Horse Driving, Vaulting, Polo, Horse Care, and working through the Certified Horsemanship Association levels are just some examples of activities that will be part of our summer camp horse program. It is our goal to provide campers with lots of horse options in addition to the over 50 activities we already provide in Traditional Camp.
